When there is something wrong with the way your Ford Focus is operating, a caution light may come on. These lights can mean a wide range of things -- from an indication that you are low on gas or that the oil needs to be changed.
A caution light will go on when your car is low on gas or if you need to check the gas cap. An exclamation mark in between the cross section of a tire means your tire pressure is low and you need to pump up your tires.
There are three engine warning lights that may go off in your Focus -- the engine oil pressure light, the engine coolant temperature light and the service engine soon indicator. The coolant light means the temperature is too high, while the pressure light means the oil pressure is below normal range. The service engine light means your Focus needs an oil change or other maintenance. If a wrench appears, that means your transmission needs to be inspected for problems with the power train.
If the ABS light illuminates or flashes, it is indicating a problem with your anti-lock brake system, and your car should be brought in for service. The brake system light will illuminate when your brake fluid is low or if your brakes need to be inspected.
Other caution lights may go on in your car if the battery is low or not charging, the seat belts are not fastened or a door is open. Airbag indicators and traction-control lights may also come on.
