How to Reset the Maintenance Required Light on a Saturn SL1

Most models of the Saturn SL1 are equipped with a maintenance reminder system that illuminates a reminder light when service needs to be done. The computer tracks driving conditions and mileage driven to determine when to require maintenance, such as an oil change. Many automobile mechanics will reset the maintenance light when they perform service on the SL1. If you do the maintenance yourself, you can manually reset it.

  • Turn the ignition switch to "ON" without starting the engine.

  • Open the hood.

  • Pull up on one edge of the fuse box lid to remove it from the fuse box. The fuse box is a black or gray plastic box located near the battery on the driver's side of the engine compartment.

  • Press the "OIL-R" button in the fuse box for five seconds. Release the button.

  • Press the trip odometer reset button on the instrument panel until the maintenance required light is displayed.

  • Press and hold the trip odometer reset button until the maintenance light resets.

  • Turn the engine to "OFF." Replace the fuse box lid and press on it until it snaps into place. Close the hood.
