If you have purchased a new keyless entry fob for your Ford Freestar, you will need to program the car's computer to recognize its signal. If you have the instructions to do so, you can save yourself money by doing it yourself instead of having a dealership do it for you.
Turn the ignition key from the "Off" position to the "Run" position eight time in 10 seconds. End the eighth time at the "Run" position. The door locks will cycle closed and open to confirm you did it right.
Press any key on the first fob you want to program within 20 seconds of finishing step 1. The door locks will cycle again to confirm your request.
Press any key on the second fob you want to program, again within 20 seconds of the prior step. The door locks will confirm.
Turn the ignition off. The locks will cycle to confirm that you have exited the programming mode.
