How to Clear the Change Oil Light in a 2003 Oldsmobile Alero

In an attempt to reach out to a younger audience, Oldsmobile released the smaller and sportier Alero as the maker's entry-level vehicle. The 2003 Alero came standard with a 140-horsepower, 2.2-liter four-cylinder and had an optional 170-horsepower, 3.4-liter V-6 available. Oldsmobile fitted the 2003 Alero with General Motors' Oil Life System, which alerts the driver that an oil change is due by way of a "Change Oil" light on the instrument cluster.

Locating the "Reset" Button

  • Oldsmobile positioned the "Oil Change" light "Reset" button in the driver's side interior fuse panel. The "Reset" button is on the top, left corner of the fuse panel.

Resetting the "Change Oil" Light

  • Open the driver's side fuse panel. Start the Alero's engine and turn the engine off; press and release the "Reset" button. Once the "Change Oil" light begins flashing, press and hold the "Reset" button until you hear chimes indicating that you have reset the oil change light.
