How to Reset the Change Oil Light on a 2008 Tacoma

The 2008 Toyota Tacoma uses a maintenance reminder system to keep track of engine conditions and driving habits and calculate when the engine oil needs to be changed. A warning light illuminates on the instrument panel to alert you that an oil change needs to be performed soon. Many automotive technicians will reset the oil warning light if they change the oil. If you change the oil yourself, you can manually reset the warning light.

  • Turn the ignition switch off.

  • Press and hold the trip odometer reset knob.

  • Turn the ignition switch to the "on" position without starting the engine.

  • Release the trip odometer reset knob after the odometer displays six zeros, then goes blank.

  • Turn the ignition switch off. The oil change light will not come on the next time the Tacoma is started.
