How to Replace One Tire on a Volvo XC70

Always carry a spare replacement tire for your Volvo XC70 in case you need to replace one of your current tires. Otherwise, you may end up stranded with a flat tire. A full sized tire (versus a donut spare) makes a nice replacement tire. This saves time by allowing you to change the tire only once. With a few tools and a bit of knowledge, changing your own tire can save you time and money.

Things You'll Need

  • Lug nut wrench
  • Jack

Instructions

  • Retrieve your tools and replacement tire from the cargo area of your Volvo and place them near the tire you will be replacing.

  • Loosen the lug nuts with the lug nut wrench. Do not remove them completely. Place the jack under your car between the front and rear tire nearest the one you will be removing. Make sure the jack is under the frame of your car so it won't damage anything under your Volvo. Jack the car up enough so the tire is off the ground.

  • Remove the lug nuts from the wheel. Pull the old tire off the axle. Slide the new tire onto the axel and replace the lug nuts. Tighten them as much as you can, going in a star pattern. This will ensure the wheel stays straight while being secured to the bolts.

  • Release the jack and lower the car back to the ground. Use the lug nut wrench to fully tighten the lug nuts so they cannot be loosened by hand.
