Tire maintenance is important with a Saturn VUE to make sure you're getting good gas mileage and the handling you expect. Checking the tire pressure is something you can do yourself quite easily.
Purchase a tire pressure gauge. You can go old school and buy one with a dial or the kind with the post that protrudes under pressure. You can also go futuristic and buy a talking tire pressure gauge that saves you from squinting at a display.
Allow your tires to cool before you test the pressure. After driving, the friction has heated your tires and the air inside. This skews the pressure result. Wait overnight, if possible, and then go out in the morning to take your pressure reading.
Remove the caps from each of the valve stems. Keep these in a safe place, as they can skip away easily.
Push the gauge's valve onto the stem of each tire on your VUE. If you're not pushing at the right angle or weight, you will hear a hissing sound. This means the air in your tire is escaping. When you don't hear hissing anymore, the gauge should be displaying the pressure inside your tires.
Take note of each of the tire pressure results. Write them down and make sure you know which tire has which reading.
Look at whether the air pressure reading that you just conducted matches with Saturn's recommended air pressure ratings. Saturn says for the best results with the VUE that you should maintain 26 to 36 psi.
