How to Check Air Pressure in a Tire in a Hyundai Santa Fe

By selecting the Hyundai Santa Fe SUV, you've decided you want quality performance. To maintain this performance, you have to make sure your tires are inflated properly. If you don't, you experience reduced handling and gas mileage.

Things You'll Need

  • Tire gauge
  • Take note of the printed tire codes. These can be found on your tires and on your driver's side door. Hyundai recommends 28 to 36 psi as the proper pressure levels for tires on the Santa Fe. You also need to get a tire pressure gauge from an auto parts store or department store.

  • Cool your tires down by not driving around. Remember that heat makes gases expand, like the air in your tires, and this can throw off your readings. The best time to test the pressure is in the morning.

  • Twist off the valve stem caps on your tires. These have a way of getting lost easily, so keep them in a safe place.

  • Depress the tire pressure gauge on each of the valve stems. If air is escaping the tire, you are not providing the proper measurement to your gauge. If this happens, you hear a hissing sound. When you get a proper reading, write each number down so you don't forget.

  • Double-check your readings against the recommended pressure. A 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited comes with tires rated at P235/60R18 102H.
