Adjusting the carburetor choke is a job you can complete in just a few minutes. Weather can effect the carburetor performance, causing the choke to operate inefficiently. A quick adjustment can smooth out the problems with the carburetor choke and provide better gas mileage and operation of your engine. You must adjust the carburetor choke with the rod that either mounted to the barrel of the carburetor or running from the barrel to the manifold, just below the barrel.
Remove the air cleaner from the top of the carburetor, and unfasten the retaining screws at the base of the carburetor choke with a screwdriver so you can move the choke rod.
Move the choke rod until the choke plate inside the carburetor barrel just touches the inside of the barrel. If you are setting a carburetor choke with a rod on the exterior of the carburetor, bend the rod gently to obtain the proper setting.
Secure the retaining screws with a screwdriver so the choke is in the correct position, and reattach the air cleaner to the top of the carburetor.
