Dodge Ram Fab Fours Rear Bumper - Four Wheeler Magazine

Ken Brubaker Senior Editor, Four Wheeler

A bumper is just a bumper. Or is it? This Fab Fours rear bumper, which fits the 2003-'08 Dodge Ram 1500 and 2003-'09 Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 pickups, not only protects, but also offers integrated steps on each side of the tailgate and 3/4-inch D-ring recovery points. It's engineered for strength while keeping the weight down. The bumper is CNC laser-cut and made from 3/16-inch-thick formed steel, and its design allows you to retain the OEM trailer hitch and trailer wiring locations. The unit weighs approximately 120 pounds, so you'll need a couple of people and/or a hydraulic jack to complete the install.

The team at Attitude Performance in Arlington Heights, Illinois, modified this particular bumper to house a pair of rear-facing aftermarket lights. They also coordinated sending the unit out to be powdercoated to match the truck's factory paint.

With it out of the way, the license plate wiring is lengthened so it can be attached to the new license plate lighting that comes with the Fab Fours bumper. This lighting, as well as the license-plate lighting, trailer hitch wiring, and license-plate mounting inserts, was installed on the bumper before it was installed on the truck.
4. A pair of new Fab Fours bumper mounts is used to attach the new bumper to the frame of the truck. These new mounts simply bolt to the framerails in existing holes with no drilling.
5. The last step is to move the new Fab Fours bumper into position and fasten it to the new bumper mounts using the included hardware. Before tightening all of the fasteners, the bumper is aligned front-to-back and side-to-side and the tailgate is lowered to ensure it clears the bumper.
