BDS Makes 'Em Ride Better Nowadays, recreational 4x4s and tow rigs can be had for prices we couldn't imagine just a few short years ago. Surfing the Net is a great place to find the rigs too-but you still have to get your butt over there and kick the tires.

We ran across a '95 Ford F-350 that was purchased for a song off Craigslist. The truck was in great shape and ran strong, but handled and rode like an old buckboard with a nasty death wobble. Crawling around underneath the truck, we found the shocks leaking. They were damaged and missing bushings. The front leaf springs were worn to a negative arch, and there was no steering stabilizer.

We called BDS Suspension and ordered up a new suspension system. Installing the new springs and such took the better part of a day with the qualified techs at Overkill Engineering. Afterward we hit the road and romped though a few trails. The truck rode like a new rig, and the death wobble disappeared.

After installation, this system allows 35-inch-tall tires to be stuffed under the fenderwells. It's amazing how horrible a ride some guys will endure! Three of the old shocks on the Ford were missing upper bushings, and the lowers were in pieces. The BDS hydraulic shocks are valved specifically for each application and are a good economical way to get an old truck riding nicely. The BDS lift blocks are designed to be installed under the factory blocks. It's important to make sure they are installed properly and the U-bolts are tightened to factory specs. The new U-bolts should always be re-torqued after testdriving the vehicle. The factory front leaf springs on our F-350 were worn and didn't offer any suspension performance or ride comfort. The ride was so bad a cup of coffee wouldn't stay in the cup holder. The BDS springs are fitted with antifriction pads and tapered; they gave the truck a far better ride. The BDS double shear track bar bracket relocates the track bar and keeps it within factory specs. The suspension system also comes with extended sway bar links and pitman arm for proper steering geometry. The major issue with the Internet-bought truck was the unstable ride and the death wobble. With the new suspension and the addition of a steering stabilizer, we cured what ailed this old rig.
