Brake Drum Rebuild

Even with the popularity of disc brake swaps, the majority of us are still relying on four-wheel drum brakes to stop our rides. When those drum brake systems require attention, or even a complete overhaul, the procedure is very simple and doesn’t cost that much, depending on what is worn out. And drum brakes can work better than most people would expect with the addition of high-performance shoes and the replacement of all parts that need it. Chrysler, Ford and GM drum brake systems are very similar, so the rebuild shown here on a GM system also applies for other makes. The work requires a few handtools and roughly an afternoon to do all four corners. Do only one wheel at a time so if you forget how it came apart, you can use the other side as a guide to put all the pieces back together.
