904 Three-Speed Automatic Transmission Buildup

The Torque Flite 904 transmission has shown up in many Chrysler products throughout the years. For this reason, we will show you how easy it is to rebuild one and at the same time up the performance with a TransGo (PN TF8) Reprogramming Kit. We contacted A&A Transmission for a Master Overhaul Kit (PN MK-12000B), which included everything except the front band (PN 12905 BGW), rear band (PN 12820 BG), pump, and shaft bearings. A&A Transmission also sent us a 2,000 rpm stall speed converter (PN 11701-904-L-U-MX). This was the recommended stall that Crane Cams suggested with the cam in our Slant Six engine.

The only special tool required is a clutch pack spring compressor. This tool compresses the piston so the retaining ring and piston can be removed for seal replacement. Our master mechanic Dave LaForce had one, but if you don't, they are available at your area tool rental store. A service manual for your particular model year and application is a must to check tolerances and torque specifications.
