Covercraft Car Covers - Tech

Proving Grounds
Car covers aren't as cool as a titanium exhaust systems or that new race seat you just installed, but what they lack in the bling factor they make up for in practicality. When you invest thousands upon thousands of dollars into your prized possession, doesn't it make sense to protect it from the harsh elements and potential break-ins? Not everyone has the luxury of parking his or her car inside a garage, so the next best thing is a car cover. When you consider the low cost, it's really a no-brainer.

But not all covers are created equally; you have to consider construction quality, materials used and fitment when purchasing a cover. Having used generic car covers in the past, we definitely recommend against them. Much like the saying "one size fits all" rarely rings true, the same applies to car covers. When you have one that's too big for the vehicle, the slightest gust of wind will blow it off; when it rains, pockets of water can build up in the creases, leaving you to deal with the standing water afterward. Our advice is to spend the extra few bucks and get a properly fitting cover.

Thankfully, there's one company that stands out in the specialized custom car covers market: Covercraft. Having used Covercraft UltraShield HD covers with our past project cars, we knew that the quality, fit and finish were superb. That's why we insisted on some custom covers for our current fleet when we recently moved offices and were forced to park our cars outside.

As the photos show, the covers fit snugly to the car's exterior and the elastic trim ensures that there's no chance of it blowing off. We opted for the gray finish, but an array of colors are available, including two-tone schemes.

The benefits of protecting the vehicle's paint from the constant battering of the hot California sun's UV rays, occasional rainstorms, bird droppings (that can scar your paint in a matter of days) and debris are as important as not drawing attention to the vehicles. Unless someone is particularly interested in what's under your car cover, they won't glance twice at it. Even though that's a small security measure, it's one that makes us sleep a little easier at night.
