Cloth seats have been the staple for truck interiors since the late '80s when the Big Three finally decided that vinyl seats were passé. Anybody that lived through a sweltering summer on vinyl seats can attest to the horrible sweating they helped produce. With the onset of cloth seats came a greater comfort level during those cold winters and sweltering summers, thanks to cloth's ability to properly circulate air. However, it soon became clear to the manufacturers that we as consumers wanted even more interior choices and a bit of luxury as well. Enter: leather.
Cloth is less expensive and keeps the cost of the truck down, but at the expense of looking cheap and rather plain. Leather, on the other hand, is visually appealing and gives off that splendid smell that we enjoy so much. Add to that, leather is much easier to clean in the event of a food or drink accident, and you can see why we would choose to check off the box for leather over cloth any day—it's the trifecta of luxury, style, and durability. With that in mind, it should come as no surprise that we weren't big fans of Project Blue Bomber's work truck interior and its unappealing factory cloth seats. An upgrade was in order and we turned to world-renowned Katzkin for one of its cool custom seat conversions. One of the more interesting custom seat conversions offered by Katzkin is the Rawlings special edition. Officially licensed and featuring unique baseball glove-inspired colors, you can get the Rawlings leather in any seat configuration Katzkin offers. The collaboration between the two companies resulted in officially licensed seat packages available in either Pitch Black or Glove Brown. With the unique Rawlings patch sewn onto the seatback, it instantly brought back memories of fresh gloves wrapped in rubber bands and smashed between the mattresses.
While in the process of many other interior upgrades at Audio Innovations in Glendora, California, we had the crew there perform a cloth for leather swap on the Silverado's original seats and center console. It took some work, but the pros at Audio Innovations were able to handle the Rawlings conversion in no time at all.
