Auto Insurance Claims: Insufficient Coverage, Insufficient Coverage

Question
I am recently at fault in an accident damaging 2 other vehicles.  My policy only pays $10K/accident.  The damage to the other vehicles are $22K total.

I don't have money to pay this.  What can I expect from the other parties/insurance companies.  Should I prepare for a lawsuit?"  Do the Ins Co.s attempt to reach a deal out of court first?  Should I contact the other insurance companies?  Help.

Answer
Hello Dirk,

You are responsible for 100% of the damages. If your insurance coverage is not sufficient, then you will have to pay for the difference.

If you don't have the amount to cover the damages, then you can try to strike a deal with the insurance companies (to take less). Most likely, they will allow you to make payments. Maybe that is the best option for you.

I am sorry about this situation.

Good Luck,
