Auto Electronics: 1995 BUICK CENTURY, fuel pressure regulator, dead fuel

Question
QUESTION: LOOKING AT A 1995 BUICK CENTURY. CAR RAN GREAT, LOST KEYS. HAS NOT RUN FOR 6 MONTHS.WENT TO DEALER WITH VIN NUMBER AND GOT NEW KEY. CAR WILL SPIN OVER BUT NO START. POURED A LITTLE FUEL IN TO IT AND NO FIRE. ANY IDEAS?

ANSWER: Hello,

Generally when this happens, it is due to the Immobiliser. Usually, when you receive your key it would need programming to your vehicles immobiliser. Dealerships would normally just provide you with the Key blank direct from the factor pre-cut to your vehicle via the VIN provided. To programme the key it would normally require you taking your car to the dealership or calling out an auto locksmith/electrician to programme it for you.

Have you done that yet? If you have, you might need to take it back to them as they may have not programmed it correctly.

Hope this is helpful.

QUESTION: SARAH, THERE IS NO CODE IN THE KEY TO HAVE REPROGRAMMED IN THIS PARTICULAR CAR. I WAS TOLD TO LEAVE IT SIT FOR 1 HALF HOUR WITH THE KEY ON TO RESET COMPUTER. THIS DID NOT WORK. I DID CALL THE DEALER WITH THE VIN TO SEE IF IT INFACT THERE WAS A CODE.

Answer
It could be either of these things. No spark or no fuel in the cylinders. Check to see if there is fuel reaching the injectors. If there is, check for spark in every cylinder with the original spark plug. If these are fine then it could be that you have dead fuel in the tank, especially if it has been sitting there for a long time as fuel quality deteriorate after a period. Have you changed the fuel in the tank?

Once you have check all of these and they are fine then you need to check the Fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator which controls fuel pressure.

Let me know how you get on.
