Auto Insurance Claims: Theft Insurance Claim, auto insurance policies, damage insurance

Question
Hello- I would like to ask a question about my auto insurance theft claim. it is a third party claim. My vehicle was being service by a mechani shop and the mechanic fixed the car and left the keys in the car while he attended other business. In the process of him being away from the vehicle the car was stolen from an unknown party. Weeks later the vehicle was recovered but I a concerned because they advised that they will not re-do the key only make a new copy for me. What are my rights in this situation? Also, I have been utilizing a rental car for the last few weeks and I have been responsible for the damage insurance on the rental car. Can I be reimbursed? The insurance advised that the will not reimburse me for this.

Answer
Hi Joy,

The insurance company is not responsible for replacing the locks in your car. That is up to you.

As far as the rental car, the insurance company is not responsible for paying for insurance coverage on the rental car. Most auto insurance policies cover you while you are driving a rental car. So your own auto insurance was all that you need when you rent a car. That is why the insurance company will not pay for the extra coverage that you chose to purchase.

I hope this helps
