Auto Insurance Claims: Damage/ diminished value, factory radio, radio out

Question
I was rear ended. I have a 08 Honda Civic. Person that hit me was driving a newer, 06-08, Honda Accord. The damage seems to be fairly bad, but more internal. The trunk where spare sits is buldging up, muffler is pushed in obviously the rear bumper is completely jacked up. I looked under the car and there is a lot going on, stuff smushed in. The main reason I have concern is because the doors, it's a 2 door car, are not lineing up with the interior. each door panel is about an inch away from the dash when the door is closed. I can actually stick my fingers in between te gaps... The doors had abverh tight fit here before. The impact actually knocked the factory radio out on one side. In the front dash in general there are gaps I did not see before. I'm thinking the car may be totaled.

I am worried if I take to a shop that 1. This will not be fixed or fixed incorrectly 2. I don't want "corners cut" 3. How do I trust that a body shop is going to give a true opinion of the damage I.e they say the damage does not total car in order to make money fixing the car.

By nature I really do not trust people in these situations so I am unsure of what I should do..

Answer
Take you car to the best shop you can find, one with a reputation for doing the highest quality work. You may consult with your dealer, local mechanics, or the BBB for recommendations. Inform the shop of your high expectations for the repair and your intent to seek a post repair inspection to determine diminished value, if any. Steer clear of any shops an insurance company recommends, as they are typically the ones who will cut corners to save the insurance company money on the claim.
