Auto Insurance Claims: auto accident in1994, juris doctor, own insurance

Question
Had an auto accident in 1994, won lawsuit and now I need the paperwork. Where do I begin to search for information on this accident?

Answer
Wow, Orlando, that is a tough question since most attorneys DO toss their records after around twelve years.  First place to start would be your attorney's office.

Next might be your doctor's office.

Finally, you can  communicate with the insurance company that paid you.  But chances are high that the file has been destroyed by now.  Still, they DO make a summary of the accident and injuries and amount paid.  So they could have that info still.

If you used your own PIP or Med/Pay, then your own insurance company will have both the amounts they paid, plus the doctors to whom payments were made.

If you need this info for a current accident, then tell the adjuster or your doctor that you want to inform regarding this accident, as much as you can recall, together with a caveat that you do not have a firm memory and that your present statement of facts could be subject to correction.

Hope that this helps,
