Auto Insurance Claims: Auto Repair/Insurance, state insurance commissioner, chevy cobalt

Question
I am from upstate New york and I was in an auto accident on March 4,2009. Our insurance company recommended a preferred dealer for the repairs. It has been almost six weeks and the repairs are not completed and neither the repair shop nor the insurance agent will give us a completion date. The car was a brand new 2009 chevy cobalt. We have been getting the run around from both of them, even after numerous calls and complaints. The repairs were started, but have not been completed. Can I remove my car from the preferred dealer and have it taken to another repair shop?

Answer
You certainly can as long as you understand that the insurance company only owes the cost of one repair and anything above and beyond that will come out of your pocket up front.

If they cannot give you a completion date then it is time for you to get both the insurance company and dealer management involved.  If that doesn't work, your state insurance commissioner.
