Auto Insurance Claims: Claim Payment, Claim Payment, claim damages

Question
I was hit last week and the other party's insurance has accepted 100 liability.  They asked me if I wanted to get it fixed or if I wanted a cash settlement.  I decided on the cash settlement.  Their adjuster is coming out to the house tomorrow to see the car.  Will they give me a check right then or will I have to wait for them to mail it from back east?

Answer
Hello Amber.

The adjuster has the ability to give you a field check. Most of them are authorized signators on the insurance company account and can pay you right then.

There is the possibility that the adjuster might want to double check something (i.e. the price of a part), and might have to wait to see what is the price to replace something so they can give you the proper amount.

Other than that, you should be able to receive a settlement right there and then without having to wait.
