Auto Insurance Claims: Recorded Statement?, own insurance, insurance company

Question
Hello,

Do I have to give an insurance company a recorded statement by law?

Can I just give them a written statement?

Thanks.

Answer
Hi Daniel,

This would depend on if you are dealing with your own insurance company or another persons insurance company. If it is your own then you should submit to the recorded statement. Your policy requires you to cooperate with the investigation of any claim. If you refuse, they can deny your claim for noncooperation. If it is someone elses insurance comapny then you can refuse to provide a recorded statement and simply provide a written statement. You can ask them to submit to you a list of questions in writing and then you will answer them.

I hope this helps
