Auto Insurance Claims: Parking lot accident, parking lot accident, minor scratch

Question
Four months ago i accidently scratched someone else's car on at a parking lot. As a civilized person, i left a note with my phone number. The person just called me yesterday, after 4 months and now he wants the insurance details. I told him that i am not willing to share it with him now, since i don't know what happened to his car since then. Even if i share this information with him after all, how do i make sure my insurance will only pay for this minor scratch and not for whatever else happened during this 4 months ?

Answer
Hi Dima,

You will have to ask for an in person meeting with him and his car. You should bring a digital camera with you. Then you can inspect the damage and compare it to your memory of the damage. If the damage still looks the same as you remember, take several photos to document the damage. Then you can decide if you want to turn it over to your insurance or pay for the damage out of your pocket.

I hope this helps
