Auto Insurance Claims: car accident, car gap, lienholder

Question
Hello. I was involved in an car accident that resulted my car to be totaled out. To make a long story short my car & gap  paid all but about $1600.00.  The Lienholder stated that due to me skipping a payment, I was still responsible for that payment and any unpaid interest . Presently my lien holder has sold this debt to a collection agency ..I was wondering if i'm still obligated to pay that balance?

Thanks in advance ...

Answer
Hi Tangela,

Yes. Just because a lienholder sells the debt does not eliminate your obligation to pay. This must be paid. You can contact the new collection agency to make payment arrangements. Do not let them bully. You can only pay what you can pay. Do not give them access to any of your bank accounts and do not send them checks from a checking account. You should pay them in money orders keeping the receipts as proof of your payments.

I hope this helps
