Auto Insurance Claims: Thinking about suing for wage loss., unemployment insurance, minneapolis mn

Question
I was in an accident in Minneapolis, MN on March 17 2008. I was driving through an intersection, and a red SUV turned left in front of me. I hit her going about 20mph, it was determined I was 0% at fault by both insurance companies. I have Progressive, the other driver has State Farm. I was on disability until Early May, but only was compensated $250 of my total check each week from my company. I would normally get about $500 each week. My employer informed me, off the record unfortunately, that I was going to be fired very soon if I could not come back to work. I decided to quit, as that looks better than being fired. The problem is I have not been able to get another job that does not require physical labor, and I am running into serious financial problems. Would I have a case to sue somebody for wage losses up to the current date, August 12th?

Answer
Hi Kim,

You should be able to receive compensation for lost wages that were specifically due to the accident. I do not think that you will be able to receive anything after the date that you quit your job. If you had been fired you may have been able to receive unemployment insurance. However, in either case you will need to have all of your medical records and bills, proof that you were on disability due to the accident, as well as a statement from your employer indicating the dates that you missed work due to the accident.

You may want to consult with an attorney to assist you with this process.

I hope this helps
