Auto Insurance Claims: Geico wants to settle for 20k, claim letter, demand letter

Question
i was hit from the rear by a drunk driver( double the state limit for VA) who was speeding going 70 in a 55.  I had 5 k worth of medical bills, for the past year i have had to get several treatments done to my hip and knees and i still feel pain when it rains.  I have had tons of personal issues gained 50 pounds and ended up losing financing on a house due to switching jobs.  I could not maintain the workload with the pain i was in.  Would it be worth it to take it to court or could i end up with no money in the end. I was hoping since i was unable to continue that line of work to go to school, and felt since it was due to his negligence i was going to see a little more extra money from the injury.

Answer
Hi Anthony,

Generally, most injury claims will settle for between 2 to 6 times the amount of the medical bills. If they are offering you $20,000.00 based on $5000.00 in medical bills, that would be 4 times the medical bills. Without knowing the exact nature and extent of your injuries as well as the prognosis for recovery it is hard to say if this is a good offer or not. It is seemingly not a bad offer.

You should go to a website called www.collisionwizard.com . You can register to use the site for only $19.95. It will help you to determine a fair settlement range based on the specifics of your case. You can even creat a demand letter as well as other claim letter to help you through the process.

I hope this helps
