Volkswagen: clutch repair and life, vw cabrio, clutch repair

Can you tell me all of the parts that should be checked when a clutch goes bad and is replaced?  How long should a cluthc and the chifter linkages last both the long and short one.  I have a 2000 VW Cabrio.

the clutch should do around 100 000 miles. you should replace the clutch, pressure plate and release beaing. the clutch should be bled (if hydraulic) or possibly replace the cable for manually operated ones. the gear linkeage cables should really last for ever.
