Auto Insurance Claims: Auto Insurance Claim, auto insurance claims, auto insurance claim

Question
I have a question relating to auto insurance claims. Early Sunday morning my truck was broken into, the driver's window smashed and both mine and my friend's purse were stolen. (For the record both purses were completely out of sight, the only thing visible from any of the windows was a jacket on the rear seat.) I am not having any issues with the claim on my home owner's policy for the purse or contents with the exception of a set of keys to the truck that was stolen. The issue I am having there is with the auto insurance company. My husband is overseas, I had his keychain which contained a key to the truck, a remote key fob to the truck, and one house key, in addition to my own keys to the home and vehicle. His keys were in my purse mine were with me. When they stole my purse, they got those keys and remote. My problem is this, since they have the remote AND the key to our truck, simply reprogramming the remote will not do any good as the alarm can be deactivated with the key when it is used to unlock the door. The keys are chipped, and can be reprogrammed also, but that only prevents the key they stole from starting the vehicle, it does not prevent them from using it to gain access into our vehicle. The insurance company said they would cover reprogramming the remote (which my dealer said he would do for free along with giving me another remote free of charge also.) and cover reprogramming the key and a replacement key. They have refused to cover replacing the lock cylinders, ignition cylinder etc. (which makes no sense to me as leaving the thief with access into the vehicle just sets them up for another claim, considering the thief has my address also.) What, if anything, can I do about this?

Answer
Hi Shannon,

The insurance company should replace the all of the vehicle lock cylinders as well as the ignition switch cylinder. You need to complain to management. If they refuse, tell them you want it in writing with the exact reason they will not pay for the lock cylinders in writing. Remember that the squeeky wheel gets the grease. Just keep complaining. As you said, to not replace them is inviting another break in by the same criminals.

You also need to change the locks on your house.

I hope this helps
