Auto Insurance Claims: Stolen from a dealership, department of motor vehicles, cercone

Question
I recently decided to work in NZ on a temp visa. I decided to use a local bike dealership to sell my motorbike on their behalf. I did not hear for some time then one email said he had sold the bike and was waiting to transfer the funds. Later that week the police contacted me to say the business had went into recievership and the owner had sold the remaining bikes and departed with the money. The police are treating it as theft.
My bike is still insured and I wondered if I can claim on my insurance as the bike was never the dealerships property?
Thanks for your help!

Answer
Well Steve, you have nothing to lose by making a claim to your insurer. An insurer may try to deny the claim saying that you were no longer the owner of the bike. You should also make a claim with the bankruptcy court. And contact your state department of motor vehicles to see if the ownership was transferred and to who.
