Auto Insurance Claims: car crashed through the store, claims advice, claim help

Question
I had an accident last march 21. i ran through a donut shop. Thank God no one is injured except to the store damage. I want to ask who is responsible for the  store damage. Its almost a month but the store is still the same no one is working at the store, no one is fixing the store. I m afraid that we might pay cause our insurance cover 25,000 for the property damage.I admit that it was my fault. who are going to fix the store and who's going to make an estimate cost, my insurance or the store insurance.Thank u

Answer
Hello Cathy,

Since you are responsible for the accident, your auto insurance Property Damage will pay - up to its limits of $25,000 - for the damages to the store.  If the damages exceed your limits, it is possible that the store could seek additional damages from you directly.

Understand that these types of claims take time.  Your carrier needs to arrange for an appraisal of the damages.  Following the appraisal process, your insurance carrier would be prepared to make payment.  Then the store needs to hire contractors to actually repair the damages.

When you say last March, I assume you mean March 2012.  If this occurred over a year ago it might be that the store has chosen to take the payment and not to rebuild.  They can do that if they choose.  They are entitled to payment for their damages regardless of how they choose to spend the money.

As long as the damages fall within your $25,00 PD coverage, you should be fine.  If you are concerned about the progress of the claim, call the adjuster assigned at your insurance company and inquire.  And, by the way, if after the appraisals it is determined that the damages could rise above your limits, your insurance company has a duty to advise you of that in writing.  Any questions or concerns - ask!

Hope this helps.  Good luck!
