Auto Insurance Claims: ins company responsiblity, uninsured motorist coverage, policyholder

Question
major ins company:  my daughter filed for a claim after an accident where the other driver drove away. they claim when she renewed her insurance she didnt' renew comp and collision. Apparently she went online to renew. she doesn't recall making any changes.  The car is financed. First don't they have to prove that and don't they have a responsiblity to issue comp and ocllision on a financed car or does it fall all to the owner. What can she do to get them to prove this and do they have any responsilbity as far as type of coverage due to it being a financed car.   please let me know what she can do.
thank you

Answer
The responsibility for selecting coverages is on the policyholder, not the insurer.  They should be able to prove this is some manner - the amount she paid, maybe an email or letter with her new premium and the change that occurred.  If they cannot, you should complain to the underwriting supervisor.

You mentioned the other driver drove away.  Was this a hit and run, and was the other driver responsible?  If so, this might be covered under Uninsured Motorist Coverage.  You should ask your claim rep  if this would apply.
