Auto Insurance Claims: cannot find at-fault party, law suit, freeway

Question
I drove my boyfriend's car with his permission on a freeway. Another car caused my to hit the fence on the freeway. The woman on that car admitted it was her fault and promised to pay me. She did not have insurance but she gave me her phone no., license no., and plate no. However, I called her and she turn her cell off at all time. I cannot get a hold with her. I am not covered under my boyfriend's policy. If he filed a claim, what would happen. What should we do now?

Answer
Hi Heidi,

If you do not live with your boyfriend then you would be covered just borrowing his car. If you live with him, you are requird to be listed on his policy as a driver. So as long as you do not live with him go ahead and file the claim.

Another possible alternative would be to call the police and give them all the information you have on the at fault driver. If they are willing to send someone top their house the police officer may be able to get them to contact you or provide info.

The only other alternative is to file a law suit against the at fault driver.

In the future, not matter what kind of sob story someone gives you, if your in an accident always call the police.

I hope this helps
