Auto Insurance Claims: Buying back an recovered stolen auto after the claim is settled, insurance company, thay

Question
Our car was stolen in January.  In March the claim was settled.  In July the car was recovered.  In August we learned that the car was recovered.

We would like to buy the car back but were told that it is against the law to purchase the car.  Do you have suggestons for how we might get the car back.

Thank-you for any information you can provide.

Answer
Hi Reg,

Once the claim was settled and you were paid for the car it now belongs to the insurance company. I do not know if it "against the law" in your state but since they now own it they can do with it what ever thay want. To my knowledge there is nothing you can do to force them to sell you the car.

I hope this helps
