Auto Insurance Claims: My insurer is going to drop me!!, state insurance commissioner, mike kreidler

Question
My mother, step father and myself, all share a policy on three different cars, my mom was in an accident twice in less than a year, and now they are going to not allow me to renew the insurance on my car in September, even though I just renewed my policy in July, I am in my early twenties so no sharing  a policy with my mother means insurance for me can be quite pricey. Further more, those are the only two accidents that were ever claimed on her policy. My mom is going to appeal, but it seems like they shouldn't be allowed to do this. We live in Michigan. Her first accident totaled her car, and was ticketed, her second was caused by an icy road no ticket was issued, and the insurance company only paid twenty five dollars.

Answer
Hi Jesse,

The insurance industry is the most abusive in America.  It rips people even if they are the policy holders.  In this case, you should be able to avoid the designation of an "at-fault" accident for the minor wreck.

Please make contact with your state insurance commissioner http://www.settlementcentral.com/links.php
and ask for the standards that she has allowed for a company to raise rates because of an at-fault accident.

For example, in my state, the nation's best insurance commissioner, Mike Kreidler http://www.insurance.wa.gov/
has fought for the consumer and limited the designation of "at-fault" to accidents with damages of at least $750.

Once you find out the limits in your own state, then write to the commissioner and complain about this situation.  There should be NO WAY THAT THEY CAN RAISE RATES OR REFUSE RENEWAL for that second accident.

Best wishes,
