Auto Insurance Claims: Accident on my property, boy friends, insurance company

Question
My son hit my daughters boy friends car and cause very slight damage.  He loves his car (probably more than my daughter) and is being difficult about the damage.  Does my son have to report it to his insurance company?  The accident happened on our drive mot on a public road.  My son has a 400 excess and doesn't want to lose any more no claims.

Answer
HI Sean,

Your son does not have to report the incident to his insurance company, however, he is liable to pay the cost of the repairs to the vehicle.

Your son should simply ask the person to go to reputable body shop to get an estimate of the repairs. Once he knows the actual costs involved he will then either have to write him a check or he will have to report it to his insurance company. Either way the person must get paid for the cost of the repairs.

I hope this helps
