Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: Auto Air Conditioner Compressor, auto air conditioner, r134a refrigerant

Question
1995 Buick Skylark.  1.  Can I add oil to the compressor?  How?  My compressor has a small oil leak.  No leaks to the freon.  2.  What freon is used in this model.

Answer
Leon,
If your compressor is leaking oil, then you are also leaking refrigerant, you may not have leaked enough to make it very noticable yet. You cannot add any oil to the system without recovering all of the refrigerant first. Oil is added through the low side (suction) port of the compressor where the lines connect to the manifold.
You Buick uses the R134a refrigerant. All vehicles that came off of the assembly line after 1 July 1992 should have R134a in the systems.
My recommendation is to go ahead and continue using it until you notice a depletion of the cooling ability. Once that happens, Take it in to a reputable shop and have them recover the refrigerant. Once that is done, then you can go ahead and replace all of the o-rings and manifold seal. After that have them evacuate the system and charge it back up. All in all you are looking about 125 dollars if you do the replacing of the seals yourself.
Thank you for your question I hope I was of a little assistance. If I can be any help in the future, please do not hesitate to ask. If you found this answer at all helpful, please remember to rate it.
