Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: Location of 96 Chevy 2500 truck low side AC port, 4wd truck, chevy c

Question
My 96 Chevy C/K 4WD truck's AC is not getting as cold as I would like, and I
bought a recharge kit ($20..or at least what it would cost me to have it
tested), but I am not ABSOLUTELY sure which is the AC low side port.  There
are two ports on the compressor on the front-center of the engine: one on
the left side of the compressor  (when facing into engine from the front
bumper) by the hose that goes to the front grill, and one on the right side of
the compressor, by the hose that runs back to the accumulator near the
firewall of the truck.  I think it is the one on the right...Right? (I can email a
photo, if that's helpful)  THANKS!

Answer
George,
Right, right. LOL. It is the one on your low side line that leads back to your firewall. Another way of checking is the ports themselves. The high side port is larger in diameter than the low. Also, the low side line should be larger in diamter than the high side at the compressor.
But you are absolutely correct, from the description you gave it is the one on the right side. But with R134a fittings, the low side adapter will not fit on the high and vice-versa, so you would have been safe to try it out.
Thank you for the question. If I can be of any help now or in the future, do not hesitate to ask. And thank you for the excellent description, if every questioner was as detailed as yours, it would make this so much easier.
