Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: air conditioning, replacement windshields, drain tubes

Question
I have a 1996 E 350 pick up.  The air conditioner works great but leaks on the floor.  It is not clogged.

Answer
Marty,

This should be pretty easy, if it's actually an A/C concern. Either the lower A/C-Heater case is cracked, or the water is exiting through the tube, and coming back around the outside. Several manufacturers put extensions on their drain tubes to make sure the water doesn't do that very thing. On a few cars, I've put the appropriate-sized hose stock (heater hose, etc.) over the tube (tight fit), long enough to properly drain.

Outside of that, I've seen replacement windshields, improperly installed, leak down behind the case, as well as worn or torn passenger door weatherstrips, particularly the ones with an integrated run channel. You should be able to shine a flashlight while it's happening and locate the source. Good luck!
