Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: intermittent cold A/C, astro van, air gap

Question
I have a 95 Astro Van and the A/C will work fine some of the times and not at all at other times. The clutch is not activating when no A/C. I shorted across the connector to the pressure switch when the clutch was not activating and all I noticed was a fluxation in the idle. It appears that power is not getting to the clutch during those times of failure, but I have no actually checked for voltage nor have I attempted to run a hot wire to the compressor. But I do not think it would change things as if the compressor coil was the failure, it seems unlikely that it would be intermittent. Is there a relay somewhere that could be failing?

Answer
Hi Kevin, There`s a chance the air gap between the clutch hub and pulley may be too wide, At times the compressor may engage and other times not .If you can check if power is coming to the coil, do it to verify power. If the coil fails it would`ve blown the fuse.

Good luck,davidt
