Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: Auto A/C, chevy caprice, rubber seals

Question
I have a 1995 Chevy Caprice, when it was my daily driver I never had any trouble with the A/C it always blew cold. Well the car sat up for about 8 months. I started it every few weeks but never ran the a/c, now that I want to sell it the a/c doesn't get cold it doesn't even get cool. Does this mean it has a leak now even if it didn't while I was driving it all the time? Can the a/c system need to be charged even if there is no leak?
Thanks

Answer
There is refrigerant oil that circulates with the freon throughout the system when the ac is operating thus lubricating all the rubber seals and o-rings. When the ac sets these items tend to leak freon and dry out due to not being constantly lubricated via the oil in the system.

You may only need to recharge the system with freon and run it for a few hours to get these seals re-lubricated so they can expeand and seal the leak.
