Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: FREON, electronic leak detector, vacuum pump

Question
I have a 1991 Maxima and I need to change the Freon. I am wondering if the 91 maxima uses the old cans(R12) of Freon or the new ones. Im also wondering if I would be able to do it myself or I have to bring it to a shop?
Thank you

Answer
I believe in 91 they still used the R-12. there is a sticker usually near the blower motor or somewhere on the blower housing under the hood telling you the TYPE and AMOUNT of reon to use.

Recharging requires you to evacuate the system using a vacuum pump , using an electronic leak detector to find the leak and then recharging the system.
