Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: A/C not cooloing, electric clutch, clutch assembly

Question
I have a '94 Saturn SC1. I just had the a/c compressor replaced professionally. It's not blowing cold air. I took it back and they said the pressures are 200 on high side and 25 on low side, which should be perfect. They evac'd for 45 minutes. This cost me $675 and no cold air. Now they say I may need a dryer and expansion valve. Why did it blow cold air before the new comp.? The reason the comp. was replaced was it kept blowing the fuse. When it was working it cooled just fine. In reading this thread, I've seen some post about the oil and freon ratio not being correct. Is that possible that the shop put to much oil and not enough freon? If so, how do I get them to correct it? Or are they trying to get more out of me?
Thanks,
Dave

Answer
If you were ONLY blowing the fuse, The usual problem is only with the electric clutch on the front of the compressor of which can be replaced WITHOUT replacing the complete compressor assembly.

Whenever you install anew compressor you ALWAYS replace the orfice tube (expansion valve), Flush the system, Evacuate the system and install the correct amount of freon and refrigerant oil.

What I suspect is that you did NOT need a new compressor, just the front clutch assembly and they mot likely have to much refrigerant oil vs freon in the system and or there is a problem with the orfice tube (expansion valve).

I do NOT see this being your fault as they should have fixed it RIGHT the first time.

There is really no way to determine IF there is to much refrigerant oil in the sytem unless you remove and empty the accumulator and the new compressor and re-install the correct amount of refrigerant oil.

Definately sounds, From what you tell me, that they trying to get more out of you.
