Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: HVAC controller for 89 Brougham, cadillac brougham, window defroster

Question
The a/c controls on our 89 Cadillac Brougham work very erractically and ususally stay only on the low setting. The window defroster works not at all. A friend told me it was the controller located on the firewall behind the glove compartment. Do you agree? Where can I find a controller that costs less than the value of the car?

Answer
Are you getting ANY NORMAL air flow speeds from the vents ?.

Can you hear the programmer making a clicking sound as you vary the temp buttons from COLDEST TO HOTTEST ?.

You could have a vacuum supply problem from the engine to the programmer, A faulty internal programmer motor or a faulty programmer.

DON'T even THINK about putting in a USED programmer as you have no CLUE as to what condition this USED one is in. It may be shorted and could destroy other electronic components.

I am NOT trying to be a wise guy and or be rude, But I have heard this same complaint about the COST of repair parts over and over and without being RUDE, If you can afford to BUY a Cadillac, You should be able to afford to maintain it.

No disrespect intended. Even with my years as a cadillac tech, I don't drive a Cadillac due to the cost of the parts and my labor is FREE.

IF you can hear a clicking sound coming from the programmer and are mechanically inclined, I can replace the programmer motor if you want to remove and send me the programmer. Cost of the motor and labor is about $100.00.

I need to know the YEAR & MODEL of the Cadillac as well as the number(s) that are stated ON the programmer sticker FIRST.
