My S-10 heaterIs blowing cold air, The temp guage is where it always runs at and its not overheating or low on fluid. so I'm guessing the thermostat is ok. Is there some chance the fresh air baffle in the heater box is stuck open? Someone told me theres a motor controling it, is this true? The a/c is working fine but won't do me any good in january here in Mn. thx

Answer
OK, Now I got your question. YI am not up to speed on the newer vehicles But YES I do believe that the manufacturer of your vehicle does use an electrically controlled motor to regulate the damper door position.

Therefore you have 2 choices,

1. Don't fix it and move to Florida. JUST KIDDING. Some days after answering 50 to 60 questions, I need to throw in a little humor.

2. You should actually test and verify that this motor is the cause before you go replacing it. In some cases these small bi-directional electric motors can be purchased seperately from the whole A/C-Heater control module, But they will try and sell you the complete module.

There is also the possibility that the motor is NOT serviceable and you will have to replace the module.

Motor about $40.00
Module about $200.00.

let me know as I do NOT have a 2000 year service manual in my massive collection. However, I just bought the wife a new 2004 Chevy Blazer for her birthday and I ordered the factory service manuals as I do with each and every vehicle I purchase and I always advise owners of vehicles that are going to keep the vehicle for several years to buy ALL the manuals. Cost is from $150 to $300 depending upon the type of vehicle.

Your FIRST dealer repair will most likely cost you more than the cost of the manuals.

My manuals should arrive any day and I will be reading it from cover to cover and will see if GM uses the above said electric motor.

let me know.
