Question - Unfortunately, I did not evac the system.

I was told to add a can to the system to see if it would help

I probably cannot evac the system myself

Hi,

I have a 98 Dodge that has had an evaporator replacement in the past 2 years. It has recently been inconsistent in providing cold air. If the truck is at idle, it will lose cold air pretty quickly. If it is on the highway, the cold air stays on relatively well. It will sometimes stop blowing cold air and then start back up once the truck speeds up.
I have recharged the system with R134A and that seemed to help for about a month. It is now back to the old problem. Apparently I have a leak somewhere, but I am hoping it is not the $700 evaporator again.

Do you have an opinion.

Thanks
Scott

You ststed that you RECHARGED the system with R-134a. Was the system COMPLETLY empty of freon when you recharged it ?.

I need the above question ansered before I can give you any further help.

Answer
When you installed ONE CAN of freon, Did it seem to help as far as keeping the A/C working when the truck was at an idle ?.

If it has been only a couple of months from when the evaporator was replaced and the A/C started loosing it's ability to blow cold air GRADUALLY there is a very good chance that their is a leak in the system.
