Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: Evaporator coil install in Ford Taurus Gl, ford taurus, battery cables

Question
All of the manuals that come with the car and the books that you can purchase do not show the steps on removing the evaporator coil from a 94 Ford Taurus Gl.  I do know that before any work is done the battery cables have to be off in order to disengage the air bag, other than going by the firewall do you have any easy ways to get the coil out to replace it as there are many leaks in it??? None of the books show the steps on how to remove the coil, any help would be greatly appreciated!

Answer
The only books that are going to give you detailed instructions and pictures are the MANUFACTURERS REPAIR MANUALS for your particular year, make and model vehicle. These books are the exact same ones that the dealers service department gets.

If you plan on doing your own repairs and plan on keeping the vehicle for several years I would, As I do each time I buy a vehicle, Is to order a FULL SET of these manuals.

They are not cheap, your looking at approx $300.00 for the set, But they are well worth the money spent.

replacing the evaporator is a very complex time consuming procedure and requires a moderate knowledge of A/C repair. just replacing the evap is only HALF the project.

You should also replace the A/C orfice tube and the receiver/dryer (accumulator) as well. Once the evap and above said parts are replaced you have to add additional refrigerant OIL and refrigerant (freon) in the EXACT amounts, You then must use a vacuum pump to extract the atmospheric air from the A/C system and check for leaks. If no leaks are found, You then must recharge the system with freon.

If you add to much or to little of refrigerant or refrigerant oil you can damage the A/C components.

This is NOT a project for anyone who is not skilled in A/C repair and or does not have the tools and equipment to do the repair correctly.
