Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: air conditioning, jeep grand cherokee, radiator caps

Question
I have a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 5.2 liter engine, 4x4, all power.  After driving in hot temperatures with the air conditioning on I will park the car in my garage and sometimes water comes out the radiator overflow.  This doesn't happen all the time when driving in these kinds of conditions.
A friend who is an excellent mechanic said to start with replacing the radiator cap.  I have done this and am waiting to see if this will correct the problem but wanted a second opinion.
The car has 200,000 miles and runs extremely well.  I keep all the scheduled maintenance current.  The air conditioning work extremely well except for this intermittent condition.
Thank You,
Most Sincerely,
Don

Answer
This vehicle should have what is called a radiator OVERFLOW CONTAINER of which is usually made out of a see thru plastic material.

Look at the small hose that attaches to your radiator just below the radiator cap and follow it back and it should be attached to the above said overflow container. Maintaining the proper amount of coolant as indicated by the FULL MARK indicator on the overflow container will eleviate this problem.

If someone removed the above said device and the small hose is not connected to anything you will always get leakage onto the ground due to normal expansion of the coolant.

I would guess that in over 20+ years, I have only seen a handful of faulty radiator caps. I have seen the WRONG pressure rated cap installed many times.
