I just started to finance a 2015 320i and since it's new I didn't want to drive my friend but I made the bad decision and here's what happened.
When we arrive day our destination, I told him don't forget not to slam the door after getting out. He said ok but I missed something. He has a problem where he likes to assume that the doors are unlocked when we arrive somewhere. So he starts to pull open my locked door. He didn't know that the handle has to be pulled once to unlock it and a second time to actually open it. Confused, he didn't stop pulling back on it and then realizing that's not going to work, he eventually stopped. How much damage can he cause to the inside door handle by doing this, is there potential for cracks on the inside of the door around the handle? Will cold or hot weather worsen the damage done? If the handle was abused just once is that ok? Thanks a lot for your time, Dave and take care

First of all, please check to see if the inside door handle has returned back to it's original position. Next, check and see if it operates properly on the first and second pulls of the lever. Lastly, check the operation of the outside door handle, both manually, and with your key fob. If all checks out, there should be no problem with any mechanical damage being done. In regards to any cracking being done on the inside door panel around the handle, if there are no visible cracks after the incident, it's high unlikely any will occur later down the road. Hot or cold temperatures, should have virtually no effect as well.
That being said, if there is any issue, I would suggest taking your vehicle back to where you purchased it. Explain to them what happened, and they will be able to tell you whether or not they can get it covered under warranty.
