Auto body repair & detailing: 2002 dodge caravan rear ended, autobody shop, dodge caravan

Question
I was rear ended in my 2002 dodge caravan last night.  The body under the bumper and around the tail light was split. 2-4 inch splits here and there. Along with the bumper ripped off and the tail light broken, also the hatch door dented. there is a 2 inch gap between the tail light and the hatch door now.  I was just wondering if the Body is fixable. I know the KBB value of this van isn't very much at all and was wondering if all this work if at all possible was worth it.

Answer
Hi Jessica!....First off, I hope you are O.K....Without seeing the vehicle in person, but going from your description of the damage, as I am trying to picture it, unfortunatly, although it is still repairable, my guess is that it will more than likely be a Write-Off....Especially since you have mentioned the KBB value is low....And also that the damage measurements and gaps are fairly extensive....My advice, is to take it to a local Autobody Shop and have them provide you with a written estimate....Generally, they are done free of charge....From that point, you will know for sure if it is actually written off....Being that you were hit from behind, in almost ALL cases of this type, the person who rear ends another vehicle is at fault, and somtimes ends up being charged....Hopefully they have insurance, as they will be the one's who are liable for the damage, and any injury if so incurred....If you have any other questions, feel free to drop me another line....Thanks....Dave
